The festival crowd gathered the way water finds a drain: toward the stage in the northwest corner. First just that cell was packed, then the adjacent seats filled, then the whole plaza was standing room only. The rain came without warning — a wall of water from the north — and the crowd surged toward the only cover: the arcade along the south edge. Within minutes the entire bottom row was crushed with bodies while the rest of the plaza stood empty and streaming. When the sun came back they spread out again as if nothing had happened.
